You’re Dead To Me 2020…Be Gone!!

I took the above photo from the balcony of my room at the Cosmo in Las Vegas.

I know you don’t need to hear it from me…but damn 2020! The worst year ever in the history of everyone’s lives! For me, it’s like being stuck in a never ending loop of algebra class! There is not enough Jameson whiskey in the world to wipe it from my memory. Where’s the alien abduction when you need it most?? C’mon man! Get me the hell out of here!!

Ok…I’m done now. Back to food and alcohol!

It was difficult to create stories about food, its origin and history when the best that could happen was to stand in line to get a boxed meal, to-go, from almost everywhere. Most of it contactless. And with travel restrictions it crippled all of my travel plans.

However, I was able to get around for a few food and alcohol porn pics for a short story.

Cilantros' Seared Ahi Salad and Pozole Soup.

Every so often I pretend to eat healthy! Most of the time my body thinks it’s a terrorist attack! But when I’m delusional about healthy food, this is what I eat: seared Ahi tuna salad with lots of green and red looking things in it.

Last Few Trips in 2020...

In mid-November I had some business in Las Vegas and took a late afternoon flight out of San Jose, Ca. catching the sun setting at take off.

Meeting with Pompsie

Pompsie is a Las Vegas Filmmaker who is also a film editor. He was gracious in helping me decide in transitioning from this blog to video or Vlogging as they call it in the industry. For me, it requires a film crew and Pompsie provided me with invaluable information for breaking into the business.

Meet My Film Crew

In 2021, my film crew will journey with me throughout America as I travel to find good food, tasty alcoholic drinks, and paranormal investigations. Stacy Loving has a background in still shot photography with a great eye through the lens. She is a professional in the hospitality industry and has experience with the paranormal. Sal Martinez is a long time friend with a background in still shot photography, video creations, lighting and sound. Mike Pruger is a long time colleague from our former professional work lives together. He brings a fresh view through the lens of video photography.

Food and Drinks After Business Meetings

Some nights I get on a dirty martini binge. You know the saying: 1 martini is not enough, 2 is just right, and 3 is too many…when I get to the 5th and 6th martini it results in late night junk food binge eating.

Atomic Liqour

Atomic Liquor is the oldest stand alone bar in Las Vegas. Its Liquor License is numbered: #00001.

The bar was founded by Joe & Stella Sobchik in 1952. It was named for customers watching the atomic blasts from the roof. It has a wrap-around bar and a one-of-a-kind neon sign that still lights up today.

In 2012, the bar was bought by a group of investors and remodeled to its original glory. The Rat Pack and the Smothers Brothers drank here after their nightly shows, and Barbra Streisand even had her own seat, which has been restored and on display.

Walking in here is a step back in time. The drinks are good and cold! Come check it out when they open after the covid shutdown.

The Atomic Bar is located just outside of the Fremont Street Experience.

Documentary Filmmaking

My transition to Vlogging is a new journey for me. After meeting several people in the documentary film business it made sense to move in that direction. These folks took the time to share their expertise and show me, in-depth, on how to be successful in the business. It was greatly appreciated.

My blog will be around for a while. I will continue to write stories here on this platform until the transition is complete.

Vlogging will give me the ability to tell a story visually with an audible narrative. I will have greater ability and depth to interview people, so they can tell their stories about their family food origin, culture, and how they brought their food and drinks into existence.

The on-location shoots can’t happen until covid is behind us and America fully opens again. In the meanwhile, the time will be spent working with my new film crew, finding and securing locations, getting the necessary filming permits and contracts with restaurants, bars and places to investigate paranormal activity. Our show will be on a YouTube channel in mid to late 2021.

The photo above is one of a couple cinematic cameras that will be used by the film crew. It’s the Lumix GH5s by  Panasonic. It’s an amazing piece of equipment that has been fun to learn to use.

I realize I’m moving towards a gigantic media platform. I know doing this doesn’t translate much from where I came from: law enforcement to sushi chef to blog writer to documentary film.

I took the time to surround myself with people who are currently successful in the documentary film industry. And, I have listened intently, soaking in every bit of their expertise.

I grew up with the belief that if I put my heart and soul into a project and work hard everyday at it, I could learn and adapt to it. And, be successful at it.

Happy holidays everyone! Until next time on Foodie Booze Explorer.
