Tucked away in the Redwood Forest of Santa Cruz County, California, is a place that defies gravity and the laws of physics. A place where your compass is out of alignment and your orientation is confused. The spot of this mysterious anomaly is a small circular area of 150 ft.
Discovered in 1939 by a group of land surveyors, it has since become a world tourist destination for the curious. Thousands of people visit the Mystery Spot each year and many come back multiple times to re-experience the effects of the land.
So what does the Mystery Spot have to do with the paranormal? Well, let me tell you the back story first before I tell you what Psychic Empath/Lead Investigator of Lingering Souls Paranormal, Cherie Pruitt, and I did recently.
Once a Dirt Lot From Long Ago
In the late 80’s and early 90’s this was a dirt parking lot! It’s much nicer today. In those days, when I worked for law enforcement; Mystery Spot was a place I conducted regular security checks in the middle of the night.
There was a time when our office would receive calls for service to this property for trespassers and noise complaints during the property’s closed hours. So, I made it my business to drive through there late at night to keep the place secure from trespassers.
Over time, I would find groups of people, mainly hippies, with bongo drums, smoking weed, and chanting. I found people in their cars having sex, drinking alcohol, using shrooms, LSD, and of course, more weed!
There were two distinct times I found people holding seances. One group used a circle of candles and another group, on a different night, used a Ouija board.
All groups were sent packing, usually peacefully, off the property. Regrettably, at the time, I wasn’t thinking about what stage of the séance these groups were in. I didn’t give them the opportunity to close any portals they might have opened. It wasn’t even a thought in my mind.
Today I often wonder if there are portals that have been left open on this property. Cherie and I came back to check. Both of us have been tourists here over the years, but this was long before we knew each other, and during a time when paranormal work wasn’t full time in our lives.
We played tourists again and sort of conducted a recon mission of paranormal investigating with only our empath abilities and no electronic devices.
The Trail
When we arrived to the Mystery Spot, we were immediately drawn to a trail named “Bud and Emma’s Trail”. To the left of this trail was a wooded area that was fenced off as private property and we could not access it.
But behind the fenced off area was where we felt malevolent energy (dark) not necessarily demonic, but not friendly either. How do we know? Both of us recognize dark energy when we start to have labored breathing and heavy chests. As if someone put a 100 pound vest on you.
It’s an area, if we could get permission, could be a good spot to investigate for paranormal activity.
As we walked up the trail and away from that spot we no longer had that paranormal feeling. And, no where else on the trail did we have that feeling.
Looking for Parking Lot Portals
As we walked through the parking lot we did not feel any particular energy that would suggest a portal was still in the parking area, but it was also crowded with tourists and their energy. So, we might have missed it.
The Cabin in the Vortex
I took this photo standing at a level position. The cabin obviously leans to the left. That left side on the inside was were all my troubles started.
Although commonly referred to as a vortex (the actual spot of the mystery) I like to refer it as a magnetic flux area. And it lies within the left side of the cabin all that way to the backside of the cabin.
Once we walked inside and went to the left, I immediately lost control of my equilibrium. I felt as if I instantly gained 300 pounds. I stumbled backwards and the left wall caught my fall. I was nauseated, dizzy, and completely disoriented. I wanted to vomit. I could not regain my balance to walk upright. So, I walked with a slouch and every inch I moved forward was like walking with 100 pound weights on my feet. I had to leave the cabin afterwards. Cherie felt the exact same phenomena and eventually left the space as well.
15 or 20 years ago, I did not have this experience. I was able to participate in the activities hosted by the tour guide back then inside the cabin. This time I couldn’t. I tried and tried, but could not handle it for very long.
Creepy Backside Cabin
The backside was no different from the front of the cabin in terms of how we felt internally. The backside looked creepy enough to be a bad horror flick or nightmare deep in the woods. It kind of reminded me of the movie “Deliverance”!
We never got the sense that paranormal activity was taking place here. But that could have been distorted by the power of the magnetic flux occurring in the cabin.
Into The Woods
I took this photo from the backside of the cabin. These woods are fenced off from public access. It was here Cherie and I independently felt paranormal activity. She noticed it first.
She withheld the information to see if I would come to the same conclusion. She does this to me all the time, it’s part of my training and guidance, to recognize my empath skill level.
Once I regained my composure after being subjected to the disorientation of the cabin, I started to feel that paranormal sense again. It brought me to these backwoods.
Whether it be shadow figures, a portal, or a dark unknown force, I felt its presence. It is worthy of an investigation in these backwoods.
The Hindquarter Bar and Grille
Yes, we did eat during our investigation. You can’t go on a paranormal trip without eating some really good food and sharing it on a blog!! And yes, contrary to popular belief, I was the one who ate the burger! ; )
The Hindquarter Bar & Grille has been around for over 33 years. It’s mainly a local’s hangout as it is off the beaten path for tourists. The Hindquarter is known for its amazing steaks and prime rib nights! They are also known for fresh local fish, plump free range chicken, and thick sandwiches!
I had a medium rare half pound burger loaded with sauteed mushrooms, bacon, and cheese. One of my favorites at this place. My partner in crime had the shrimp salad special of the day. I tried a fork full and it was good eats!
Sitting down and having a discussion over a meal about our experience at Mystery Spot was important. It gave us a chance to debrief, exchange notes, and attempt to either debunk or to validate, or a little of both, what we saw, felt, and experienced.
The one thing we both agreed on was the magnetic flux that pulled us towards the wall of the cabin was undeniable. We also agreed there was a paranormal force present at the trail and in the woods behind the cabin. We both agreed it’s a dark force at both locations.
For now, we can’t say if there are any portals left open in the parking lot area. We were unable to validate that. Perhaps because of the volume of people in and around us at the time or because it simply does not exist.
Part of our work here was to assist a current documentary series program with some information, along with our own on-going curiosity of the Mystery Spot.
