The Jamestown Possession

Jamestown, California

Jamestown, California! A small Goldrush mining town in its day filled with violence and death much like every Western mining town in the US.

Today, the town is a historical landmark that looks more like a movie set than a town.  Located in Tuolumne County, Jamestown was founded in 1848 and currently has just over 3,000 residents.

We spent two nights at the historic Jamestown Hotel and rented out all the rooms so we could have the place to ourselves for nighttime ghost hunts! We were not disappointed and had plenty of activity.

Just ask my former law enforcement buddy, Michael Z. of Zee Dog Paranormal Las Vegas. He was with us on his first official paranormal investigation with experienced investigators. He had one particular run-in with a not so pleasant spirit that changed his view of the paranormal forever!

I found Mike’s encounter and story of events to be the most interesting thing that happened on this trip! And we captured some video of the event.

But first things first…let’s talk about the hotel’s food! It was Friday night, and of course, there would be prime rib and lobster tail for dinner!

I have eaten a lot of prime rib during my travels…although this prime rib was in the “good” category, to be honest, I have had better! But, what makes this dinner great was the staff and customer service!

This prime rib was good. I had mine medium rare as always…it was tender and the Au Jus was savory, the creamy horseradish had a nice kick to it, and the lobster tail was a great pairing to the prime rib.

Jamestown Hotel and its staff went above and beyond the expected customer service. There you have it: good food, great service, friendly staff all equaled an amazing dinner and dining experience.

Hotel Breakfast

Breakfast at the hotel was a wonderful food experience as well…I couldn’t finish my meal! Not sure if it’s because I was still full from prime rib the night before or this oversized meal was just that…oversized! Either way, it was good!

Known as the Supreme Skillet this pile of goodness had spinach, bacon, ham, kielbasa, mushrooms, onions, cheese, and potatoes in it!! Topped off with two sunny up eggs!

Lunch at the hotel was good as well…

This “Trio Meat Burger” was very tasty.  Beef patty, pastrami, bacon, pepperoncini, and Swiss cheese with a side of onion rings…it was good eats!

Pea Soup Anderson's Restaurant

My route to the Central Valley for ghost hunts has one restaurant in the truck stop town of Santa Nella, California, that I always try to stop at…no, it’s not In N Out Burger, which is nearby, it’s Anderson’s. Anderson’s opened in 1924 in the Southern California town of Buellton. In 1976, Anderson’s opened another restaurant in Santa Nella.

Today, both Anderson’s restaurants are owned by one owner.

My dad commonly used Anderson’s in Santa Nella as a place to take a break and have a meal when we traveled on I-5 as a family. So I have many fond childhood memories of eating at Anderson’s.

Their split pea soup is my absolute favorite here! I usually order the soup by itself or with a house salad. The soup is hot, full of flavor, and velvety smooth.

One of my favorite dishes outside of split pea soup is fried chicken! Fried chicken is not a common menu item in my area, unless you count KFC and Popeyes, which I do not!!

Anderson’s fried chicken is super crispy, crunchy, and packed with a lot of flavor…tender and juicy inside. And it all sits on top of some mashed potatoes and veggies. Yum…

Anton and Juliette Anderson were the original owners. They passed it on to their son Robert, who, after many years of running the business, sold it to Vince Evans. When the Evans Family passed away, Pea Soup Andersen’s went through multiple ownerships. Today, Milt Guggia, a Central Coast restaurateur, purchased Pea Soup Andersen’s Buellton in 1999 and Santa Nella in 2007. He had fond memories of coming to Pea Soup Andersen’s as a kid with his grandparents and wanted to continue the tradition for future generations.

Stogies Gold Country Lounge

Stogies Gold Country Lounge owners Phil and Cindy Herrero opened up in Jamestown in 2004. They were once residents of Santa Cruz County, which is the tie in for me. They are friends with one of my former colleagues. So stopping here was a must do!

This Lounge is not only known for its cigars, but for its beer, wine, and hard liquor!  The lounge is First Responder friendly and the owners are wonderful folks. The owners proudly display Blue and Fire flags on the front porch of their business! Speaking of front porches, the owners have chairs and tables outside for your enjoyment. I had a great time visiting this establishment.

The Possession

We spent two days at the Jamestown Hotel. Each night had paranormal activity throughout the hotel. Notably, each night, you could hear disembodied voices screaming in the hallways. Door knobs rattling, doors shaking, and footsteps down the hall and stairway.

But perhaps the most interesting (to me) was my buddy’s possession event on the last night of our stay at the hotel. Mike and I actually went to the same high school together (Watsonville High) for a bit. We didn’t know each other back then, but when he joined the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office our two paths crossed again.

Mike retired from law enforcement recently and was looking for things to do with his new found retirement time. So, he connected with me to go on some ghost hunts. I hooked him up with Lingering Souls Paranormal to join their Jamestown investigation.

He got a lot more than he bargained for in the end. Mike is a natural skeptic but he opened himself up just enough to let in some creepy dark entities. One of which took possession of him.

To put this into context, there was a basement in the hotel. We all know basements are a breeding ground for all things bad! It’s what makes scary movies scary! Every employee we talked to had something to say about the basement.

The basement was the hotel’s storage space and employees have to go down there daily to get supplies. Some employees had no issue with it while others had paranormal encounters and/or an uneasy feeling about the space.

Mike went down to the basement late at night with a few other people. He himself said the feeling down in that space was not entirely good. After about 30 minutes of investigating the basement, Mike came back upstairs and sat with Cherie, Trevor, and I to talk about his experience in the basement.

A few minutes into our conversation, Mike faded off and stopped answering our questions. After moments of awkward silence, I looked up at him and saw that he was starring off into nothingness.

I quickly realized he had that “possessed” look. A look I have come to know with a few members of Lingering Souls Paranormal. Some of them had that same look over the last year during certain investigations.

So I did what any good camera guy would do…I got up and started video recording the event while Cherie sprung into action calling on Michael the Archangel. After a spritzing of Holy water and a prayer, we witnessed the dark entity being extracted from Mike’s body.

Check out the video clip above. Watch Mike’s eyes and hands as we deal with possession and extraction.

After the extraction Mike could not recall the incident (typical of possession). Even after watching the video playback he could not recall and was actually in denial of the possession. In fact, the last thing Mike remembered was being down in the basement. He can’t recall coming up the stairs and sitting with us having a conversation before the possession showed itself to me.

We may never know what type of entity resides in the basement, but it has dark energy. So be careful what you open up to while investigating.

By the way, Mike is doing much better now…

Goof Off Time

Not all our time was spent being serious…Trevor was a great example of that. His love for Karaoke singing with his thick Irish accent was very entertaining at the hotel.

I want to thank Lingering Souls Paranormal, Santa Cruz Ghost Hunters, and Zee Dog Paranormal Las Vegas for a great time in Jamestown, California! And of course, a big “thank you” to the wonderful staff at the Jamestown Hotel & Restaurant.
