Chloride was founded in 1862 with the discovery of silver chloride, hence the town’s name “Chloride.” There were other minerals found as well, including silver ore. During its peak, there were more than 75 mines with a population of about 2,000 people. Today, there are about 400 residents still living in Chloride.
Like all other mining towns, Chloride had murders, accidental deaths, and violence. Making it a target rich environment for all things paranormal.
Chloride, Arizona was about a 1.5 hour drive from Las Vegas, Nevada. It’s basically a one street town. It was cold, rainy, with moments of snow falling the day we investigated Chloride. The town sits just over 4,000 feet above sea level.
Paranormal Investigator Mike Zervos, of Lingering Souls Paranormal-Nevada Chapter, was part of this journey to Arizona. He had been to Chloride before with SisBro Paranormal (based in Las Vegas).
But before we dive into the investigation, I went on an eating expedition in the neighborhoods of Las Vegas, and had a burger at Chloride’s only diner.
Osteria Fiorella Italian Restaurant at Red Rock Casino Resort & Spa
Red Rock Casino sits way off the strip and into the Summerlin area on the west side of Las Vegas. It’s where the locals hang out or send their relatives to stay when visiting family.
I have been to Osteria twice now. The first time I had the lasagna and the second time I had the bone-in pork chop. And both times I had the smoked mushrooms. All three dishes were mouth watering good!
The lasagna was layered with sauce, meat, and ricotta cheese. It was an Italian delight. The pork chop was savory and cooked to perfection. The bone was packed full of flavor. Screw etiquette…I picked up the bone with my hand and gnawed on it like a dog!
The wood-fired mushrooms are some of the best I ever had. The smoke flavor and sherry vinaigrette was over the top for me.
Dona Maria Tamales
Finding great tasting Mexican cuisine is hard to come by in the Las Vegas neighborhoods. Or is it just me, because I was so spoiled with the quality of Mexican food in my home town of Watsonville, California?
I found one place that comes close to quality tamales that I’m use to having. The bottom line for me is the pork and masa have to be tender and moist. The worst thing you can do to a tamale is over steam it and serve it drought dry!
So far, Dona Maria in my Vegas neighborhood has produced a good quality tamale. The other thing they do well is make a ground beef enchilada. Yeah, that’s right…I said ground beef. They are one of the few restaurants here that use ground beef.
Sure, I get it, if it’s not asada, shrimp, or the other cast of characters, it’s not an enchilada! I just happen to like ground beef in my enchiladas…that’s all, relax, it’s nothing too critical. The world is not going to end.
Salt Grass Restaurant at Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino
This was the first time I ate at Salt Grass Steakhouse. It’s located inside the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino on Fremont Street, at the Fremont Street Experience, in downtown Las Vegas.
The food was good and it was slightly cheaper in cost than eating at a steakhouse on the main Vegas strip.
When it comes to ribeye steaks, I prefer it to be made simple. Salt and pepper and medium rare is all I ask for…I don’t like the fancy sauces, blue cheese crumbles, or stems and leaves on my steak!
Salt Grass delivered! My ribeye was cooked medium rare and seasoned with salt and pepper with a side of mushrooms. Tender, flavorful, and I ate the whole steak in short order. It was heaven. I will definitely be back!!
Las Vegas Brewing Company
I wrote about Las Vegas Brewing Company before and I probably will a few more times, because their house made beer and food are top notch. And I’m eating my way through the menu.
Recently, I had the “Perfect Burger.” It’s a half pound of meat, potato bun, with a salad like medley of lettuce, tomato, onions, mixed with their “perfect sauce.” Secret sauce maybe?? And you get a choice of Swiss or cheddar cheese with it. I took Swiss.
Burgers are a dime a dozen in this town. Lots of restaurants make them day in and day out! So what separates this one from the many? Quality!! The quality of the beef, vegetables, cheese, and bun are noticeable. Making this burger very tasty!
La Casa Cigar Lounge, Summerlin, Las Vegas
There are several cigar lounges throughout the Vegas Valley, but La Casa is my favorite. It has a full bar, plenty of cigars to choose from, and live music nightly. The owner and his staff are awesome folks who are very welcoming. Come check them out if you are in town.
Yesterdays Restaurant in Chloride, Arizona
The town of Chloride was where my haunted journey began for this blog article!
I will start by saying that I had a decent burger that’s worth an honorable mention. This place happens to be the only diner in town! I had the mushroom burger and fries. It’s a standard no frills burger. What you see is what you get and I liked it.
I would like to point out that this restaurant was haunted. In particular, by the restrooms where you see the red arrow pointing to in the photo above.
One of the recent things I have developed with myself…I attract certain spirits who like to let themselves be known to me. It usually comes with making me dizzy and nauseated or my spidy senses go off: the sensation of walking through cob webs, cold chills, and goose bumps.
As I walked into the restroom, I walked through what felt like cob webs. That’s an indicator I bumped into a spirit, which is typically followed by cold chills.
It did not do anything harmful to me, but it was definitely letting me know it was there.
Unfortunately, the owners of this establishment do not allow ghost hunts. So, I had to go purely off of instinct with no electronic devices for confirmation.
Next to the restaurant was a small motel named Shep’s Miners Inn. It’s also haunted. I didn’t ask if the owners of the restaurant owned the motel, but it would be cool to conduct a paranormal investigation in some of these rooms. Why? Well, the spirit in the restroom I came across, goes back and forth from the motel to the restaurant, which was what the spirit showed me when I came into contact with it.
Chloride Cemetery
The gravesite with the wooden cross to the right in this photo was a hot bed for activity. It’s active 24/7. This was where Zervos and SisBro Paranormal were a few months ago, during night time hours, and had busy paranormal activity.
It was here I was caught off guard. I was too focused on setting up equipment that I let my guard down. I was standing behind the camera that was filming what you see in this still shot photo. I was setting up my SLS camera when I felt a sharp electrical shock sensation on my right shin. I equate that to being kicked hard in the shin. It was enough pain that I dropped to the ground.
In the video below, the audio picked up my verbal experience with the electrical shock I felt.
The audio is faint but you can hear Mike asking what happened. You can hear me feeling the pain. An unknown force got me while I was distracted handling equipment. The sharp electrical pain to my shin felt like I was kicked hard in that spot. If you have ever been kicked in the shin playing soccer without shin guards…then you know what I’m talking about!
In the video above I’m explaining what happened to me. Basically I was being a dumbass for not knowing any better about day time assaults by the paranormal.
The Old Jail
The town’s original jail is over 100 years old and has two holding cells and an office space. The day time paranormal activity was strong. Upon walking in I was instantly afflicted with nausea and a bad headache on the right side of my head.
I was definitely not on my A game in this town, I blindly walked in forgetting everything I am supposed to do before walking in (shielding and protecting myself from attacks). And, it doesn’t help that I am former law enforcement, which most inmates are never happy about!
The attack on me here took days to get rid of and it required the help of Clairvoyant Psychic and Medium, Brandy Tricas and Psychic Empath Cherie Pruitt, both from Lingering Souls Paranormal. I was also scolded by both for not properly conditioning myself prior to this investigation, but very grateful they helped me out of this mess.
This was rumored to be two grave sites with two inmates from the jail buried here. We have not verified this claim yet. The graves are located on the left side of the jail as you face the front of the building.
My SLS camera caught two figures in the cell as the Rem Pod was actively lighting up and sounding off.
This was more video of the two figures on the SLS camera (structured light sensor camera).
The Gas Station
This old gas station is now someone’s home with a “do not disturb” sign on the door. So there won’t be any investigating here, which was too bad, because I could feel the presence of a female spirit hanging out on the left side of the building (from the inside).
Tourist Attractions
The murals, which are found on a hiking trail in the hills behind Chloride, were created by Roy Purcell in 1966 as part of his journey in this region.
In the middle of town you can come to Cyanide Springs (mock town) and watch actors have shoot outs during the warmer seasons.
Chloride is a town definitely worthy for conducting a night time paranormal investigation. The town has multiple haunted locations. Many of the ghosts that roam here are permanent to this place with no desire to move on. Other spirits have less than good intentions, while others are protectors of this land, keeping other paranormal forces at bay.
If you are not into the whole paranormal thing, Chloride does offer a place to stay, some old western gun slinging shoot outs, and a hiking trail into a past marked by murals on rocks.
